About Pipers Farm

Founded in 1989, Pipers Farm is a trusted destination for sustainably produced meat, crafted in harmony with nature. We forge strong connections between ethical producers we know and trust and our valued customers. Our deep-rooted ethics and values have been the cornerstone of our business for over 30 years, and we remain passionately committed to producing wholesome, natural food that respects the environment.

As our founder, Peter Greig, puts it, “Our principles have not changed for 30 years, and you can rest assured that we will continue to produce food that you can trust completely.”

Our Story

Pipers Farm began with an idea that took root in an intensive chicken shed in 1989. Reflecting on his childhood, Peter noticed that small family farms, once common, were disappearing. After years of conventional farming, Peter and his wife Henri decided to chart a different path. They sought to build a business that would sustain the fabric of smaller-scale farming communities.

After visiting nearly 100 farms, they purchased a 52-acre plot in Devon, naming it Pipers Farm. From these humble beginnings, with little more than a muck spreader and a few tin sheds, Peter and Henri built a thriving business, managing everything from farming and butchery to marketing, all while raising their two sons, Ed and Will.

Rather than expanding the farm itself, Peter and Henri focused on supporting small-scale family farms in the area, creating a platform to sell food produced in harmony with nature. By engaging with their neighbours, they gradually built a network of ethical farmers, despite initial scepticism.

Pipers Farm’s dedication to quality and sustainability has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the BBC Radio 4 Food & Farming Best Food Producer and The Times Best Butcher, among many others.

A New Chapter

For over two decades, Peter and Henri managed the entire business themselves. However, in 2012, their youngest son Will returned home and quickly realized his passion for the farm’s future. With Will’s vision and commitment, Pipers Farm transitioned from a small family operation to a more structured business, allowing for better management of relationships with farms, butchery, and marketing. In 2017, Will and his partner Abby took over the running of Pipers Farm, building on the solid foundations laid by Peter and Henri.

Pipers Farm Today

Today, Pipers Farm employs around 50 people from the local community, all based in Devon. We collaborate directly with 45 small-scale family farms that produce grass-fed beef, lamb, and mutton, properly free-range chicken, pork, ducks, Christmas poultry, and wild venison and game. We also partner with small-scale fishermen for sustainable seafood and offer a growing range of ethical dairy, artisan cheese, bread, pulses, and small-batch jams and chutneys.

Our mission remains unchanged: to produce food our customers can trust while ensuring a future for small-scale family farms working in harmony with nature.

By supporting Pipers Farm, you are not just purchasing quality foodโ€”you are also helping to preserve our countryside and sustain small-scale farming communities. We are deeply grateful to our customers for enabling us to provide a vital route to market for these farms, proving that when it comes to farming, bigger isn’t always better.
